Glamour DMC’s Myrtle Dwyer receives National Honours

Montego Bay, Jamaica (October 21, 2011) - On October 17, Glamour DMC’s Myrtle Dwyer director with responsibility for sales and marketing was among One hundred and fifty-two Jamaicans honored for their contribution to Jamaica’s development. The annual National Honours and Awards ceremony took place during the celebrations of National Heroes week on National Heroes’ Day at King's House in Kingston.

With more than 36 years in the business, Dwyer was awarded with an Order of Distinction in the rank of officer (OD) for her contribution to the Jamaican hospitality and tourism industry. An elated Myrtle Dwyer who recently joined her own company at Glamour Destination Management having ‘retired ‘as director of sales and marketing from the Half Moon, A Rock Resort in Montego Bay, expressed her humility for the award saying “it’s a very humbling experience; this honour came as a surprise as I have always felt it was necessary to work hard and constructively seek at all times to lend a hand where possible. There is a deep sense of accomplishment and gratitude that I feel in reflecting on this award.”

Cheered on by family members, dignitaries and well-wishers, Myrtle Dwyer among the other awardees was presented with her honours award by Governor General Sir Patrick Allen under a brilliant sky on the lush lawns of his stately residence.

Reflecting on her decades in tourism, Myrtle Dwyer who concedes that the industry has changed drastically with its rapid growth and expansion globally, urged Jamaicans to continue contributing to the well-being of their homeland.

"It's a privilege to be able to contribute to your country; the management of our image is important to our stability, and all stakeholders must play their part in facilitating and maintaining growth”. She continued by saying that “the future looks bright for Jamaica’s tourism industry, as the product is diverse and of good quality in general.”

National Heritage Week provides an opportunity for Jamaicans to reflect on the hard work, dedication and contribution which their National Heroes have made to nation-building.
