PGA National Resort & Spa ranked among top 50 golf resorts

GOLF WORLD MAGAZINE ANNOUNCES INAUGURAL “READER’S CHOICE” BEST PICKS FOR 2009 – PGA NATIONAL INCLUDED

Palm Beach Gardens, FL (October 2008) – Golf World Magazine has declared PGA National Resort & Spa to be among the top 50 golf courses in the nation among three distinct categories - private, public and resort.  Receiving over 21,000 individual evaluations from a top-tier group of Golf World’s readers, courses were critiqued in 13 different performance criteria such as quality of the course, course conditions, prestige and service.  Among PGA National Resort & Spa’s highest scored categories was the destination’s extensive Pro Shop, known for its knowledgeable staff and top of the line products designed with a clear mission to assist in enhancing any golfer’s game.

Long renowned as a legendary golf destination, PGA National Resort & Spa has recently stepped up its game with the completion of a $65 million facelift, including a complete renovation of The Palmer course by the Palmer Design Group as well as an update of the famed Champion course – current home to The Honda Classic.  The multi-million dollar resort-wide renovation also included extensive upgrades to the resort’s public spaces, a new lobby and restaurant, and a lush new resort pool.

“We are thrilled to receive a national endorsement from Golf World at such an exciting time for our resort,” said Joel Paige, Vice President and Managing Director. “All the new upgrades have been beautifully executed and have greatly elevated the quality of the golfer’s experience.  We are extremely proud of the results.  Receiving accolades from such passionate golfers has really put our resort back on the map as one of the best golf destinations in the country.”

The resort boasts five tournament-ready courses designed by Nicklaus, Palmer, the Fazios, and Karl Litten; considered among the best layouts in Florida.  Each course offers a diverse array of layouts and presents its own exciting challenges, including the
narrow fairways of The Squire and The "Bear Trap" - the legendary 15th,16th, and 17th holes on The Champion.

“Some of the biggest names in the business have noted the improvements and overall feedback has been outstanding, starting with last year’s Honda Classic,” said Paige.  “The team of professionals here has done a tremendous job and we are thrilled to show off the final stages of this major renovation.”
Unique to the resort, golf enthusiasts can improve their game with personal instruction from some of the best professionals in the game, experience “golf around the world” at the resort’s High Definition Golf Simulator, or customize clubs with the new Hot Stix fitting services starting late Fall.

Though PGA National Resort & Spa has received numerous awards and distinctions in the past, Golf World’s Top 50 comes as a welcome honor as the famous resort re-introduces itself as one of the nation’s best golfing destinations.  Additional recent distinctions for the resort include Travel + Leisure’s 2008 World’s Best Golf Resorts, Golfweek’s “America’s Best Resort Courses” and Golf Magazine’s Silver Medal Award.

Opened in 1981, PGA National Resort and Spa is a stunning South Florida vacation and meeting destination.  The legendary 381-room resort recently completed a $65 million facelift including completely new front entrance, outdoor pool and pavilion as well as enhanced public areas, restaurants, golf courses and landscaping. PGA National Resort and Spa offers 90 holes of championship golf, including the famed Champion Course, new home to the PGA Tour’s Honda Classic and past host of the 1983 Ryder Cup, the 1987 PGA Championship and a litany of other prized professional golf tournaments.  Other distinguishing features include a 42,000 square foot European Spa with 56 treatments areas and the exclusive Waters of the World outdoor mineral pools, a world-class health and racquet club, 39,000 square feet of self-contained conference space and seven on-site restaurants and lounges.
