The 2 day Pro Am reached its peak on Wednesday 1st Dec with 18 Pros from the UK and 54 amateurs playing the final 18 holes in the Tournament. For the Pros it was a 36 hole strokeplay Tournament and for the Amateurs a combined team score over 36 holes.
The Tournament players stayed in the lavish appointed Korineum Residences offering views of the Mediterranean Sea and Five Finger Mountain Range. Players warmed up daily on the fantastic practice facilities at the Golf Academy before teeing off as a Team on the first Tee after their photo shoot.
Korineum opened in April 2007 and since then has been gaining in International recognition as a viable golfing destination offering a Championship standard course with stunning natural beauty.
The Tournament ended with a Gala Dinner and Prize Giving in the Valley Restaurant in the Clubhouse with live music from Ebru & Hakan
Umut Gürtunç General Manager of the Korineum resort in North Cyprus opened proceedings saying that ‘ We have really enjoyed hosting our first Pro Am event to show case our fantastic golf course and facilities enabling us to attract top players and amateurs alike. We are really proud to have achieved this.’ He then introduced Jeff Coupe acting as Tournament coordinator responsible for realizing this fantastic event together with Korineum Golf & Country Club. All agreed that the course was wonderful and next year the Pros would return again with even more teams.
Süleyman Göktas – coordinator for Education and Sport Ministry spoke and acknowledged just how the organizing of such a sporting event increased tourism in general to North Cyprus.
Şahap Aşıkoğlu – Undersecretary of Ministry of Tourism, Culture & Environment paid special thanks to the Çerkez family (owners of Korineum Golf & Country Club). He said that they had established such a wonderful golf course and facility in North Cyprus to develop special interest tourism. He congratulated their achievement with this and wished them continued success.
Local sponsors who took sponsorship opportunities and attended the gala dinner were enthusiastic about the contribution they could personally make towards promoting the golfing culture and golf tourism to North Cyprus.
